SGI Secures Permit to Build New Access Road at Charmian Plant

Recently, SGI received some exciting news from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). We’ve officially received approval to construct a new private access road between Route 16 and our Charmian Plant, located in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania. The road will connect a newly constructed entrance directly with Route 16.

Since opening our doors in 1923, SGI has always maintained a strong commitment to our neighbors in the Blue Ridge Summit community, and we’re always looking for ways to improve our operations to benefit our local neighbors. In recent years, we’ve adopted special operating hours in the residential areas along Old Waynesboro Road, and in 2016, we invested $300,000 in planting tree screening and buffer.

SGI’s new access road is another big step in our efforts to be good and responsible neighbors to the surrounding community. We’ve designed this road with our neighbors in mind, and once built, we anticipate it will significantly reduce traffic congestion by diverting trucks away from facility entrances on Old Waynesboro Road.

“We would like to extend our thanks to PennDOT and our community leaders for working together to secure permitting for this important access road,” said Justin Dunlap. “This new road will help us live up to our commitment to our Charmian neighbors to ease truck traffic and further reduce noise around our facility. We look forward to the far-reaching benefits the road will create for our community and our business.”

All of us at SGI are excited to share more details about the road with you in the coming weeks and months. Initial construction has started and is expected to be completed by mid 2021. SGI is deeply committed to ensuring a smooth construction process with limited disruptions.
