SGI’s Charmian Plant was recently named the Manufacturer of the Year by the Manufacturer’s Association of South Central PA (MASCPA).

“SGI is pleased to have had one of our sites recognized in this way by a respected regional advocate of the manufacturing industry,” said SGI President Justin P. Dunlap. “I couldn’t be prouder of Charmian for the hard work and contributions that led to this achievement.”

The Charmian Plant’s Site Manager, Justin Bushneck, accepted the award while attending MASCPA’s 118th Annual Event at the end of May in York, Pennsylvania.

“It is an honor to be recognized by an organization that works to promote manufacturing in Pennsylvania,” added Bushneck.

MASCPA described the site as a leader in attracting and retaining talent and pointed to the significant investments made to provide an extensive onboarding experience for new employees and leadership training opportunities regularly.

“The Charmian Plant’s commitment to employee development is exemplary and echoes the commitment SGI makes across all of our sites to train today’s workforce for tomorrow’s challenges,” said Dunlap.

The Charmian Plant celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023 and employs more than 165 people to support the manufacturing of high-quality roofing products, building materials, and amendments for agriculture that improve soil health and support carbon capture. The site is one of only 12 roofing granule quarries in North America. Last year, roofing granules produced at the Charmian Plant and used to manufacture asphalt roofing shingles helped protect more than 962,000 homes along the east coast.

The site regularly supports its surrounding communities and nonprofits through sponsorships, charitable donations, in-kind contributions, and Volunteer Time Off events.
