Steve Sites celebrates 50 years at SGI’s Charmian Plant
SGI’s Charmian Plant has existed as a mining operation to support the roofing industry for 100 years. Steve Sites has worked at the location for half of them. The Headlap Loader recently marked his 50th anniversary working at the site.
Sites joined the Charmian Plant in 1973 – following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who also worked there. Over the years, he has held various roles at the plant and spent most of his time in the Maintenance Department.
In addition to providing stable work, Sites said he has appreciated the opportunities SGI has given him to grow professionally over the last five decades in an environment focused on safety.
"I’ve loved coming to work, doing my job, and also helping others complete their jobs so everyone could get home safe. It felt great coming to work knowing that you had others looking out for your safety."
SGI President Justin P. Dunlap said employees like Steve are significant sources of knowledge.
“Employees such as Steve play an important role in imparting knowledge and supporting less experienced team members in the development of skills,” he said.
More than a third of SGI’s nationwide employees are celebrating 10 years or more with the company in 2023, and 48 of those employees will mark milestone anniversaries.
“The longevity that team members like Steve have with our company is a testament to SGI’s culture, benefits, and the camaraderie employees have with each other,” said Dunlap.
