Metabasalt, also known as greenstone, is a metamorphosed form of basalt. Like basalt, SGI Metabasalt is a studied, tested, and proven tool to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.

SGI Metabasalt is rich in calcium and magnesium – two of the key elements known to effectively and durably remove CO2 from the atmosphere through Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW).

How Carbon Capture Works

When finely crushed SGI Metabasalt is applied to farmland at specific rates based upon scientifically validated calculations and considerations such as soil type, SGI Metabasalt durably removes CO2 from the atmosphere through ERW.

    SGI Metabasalt reacts with CO2 dissolved in rainwater to form bicarbonate and release additional micronutrients into the soil.
